Who we are and how this site works
Last updated October 21, 2026
Top Rated Nootropics is an independent review site with one method, and we publish the working. No lab coats, no miracle language, and no score a reader can't trace.
Why this site exists
Most nootropics content online either comes from brands ranking their own product first or from review sites that call every formula remarkable. The reviews we read mostly repeated the label and skipped the studies. What got lost was the useful part, somebody actually reading the label and saying which products are dosed like the studies and which are expensive capsules of wishful thinking.
So we built the audit. Every product goes through it before we write a word. We check the label against the manufacturer's own materials where we can, and when we have to rely on another source, the audit names it. We compare every printed dose with the amounts used in human trials, flag the doses a label hides and the ingredients with no human research, date the prices, and chase testing claims to an actual certificate or mark them unverified. Our reviews are the write-up of that audit, not the other way around.
Who's behind the research
Top Rated Nootropics is run by James Bevan. He sets the method, checks every figure against its source and signs off every page, and nothing is published until it passes our review gate. AI tools help with the analysis of the data. When the site says "we", it means the publication, not a team.
What we don't claim matters as much. He has no medical or clinical training, and we don't run a lab of our own. When we've taken a product ourselves, its review says so. We're researchers, not doctors, so if you take medication, are pregnant or have a health condition, read our medical disclaimer and talk to a professional before taking anything we write about.
What makes our reviews different
Every review leads with its verdict, shows its numbers and includes the negatives, even for products we rate well. Each rating comes from the same published calculation, set out in how we audit nootropics. We call that work an audit, not testing, and how we test explains the difference and how first-hand testing will work. If a product is mediocre, the review says so.
Our research in practice
Two things our audits found, each linked to the review that shows the working.
How we stay independent
Some links on this site earn us a commission if you buy. Commission is never an input to a score, and the scoring script has no field for it. Affiliate offers don't decide our picks either, and how we audit explains how a pick is chosen. Our affiliate disclosure has the rest.
Corrections and accountability
Our corrections policy explains what happens next, and every change to a score is dated in that product's changelog.
