Best alpha-GPC supplement
James BevanUpdated Oct 23, 2026
Alpha-GPC is a choline source sold for focus and memory, and it's cheap to buy as a single capsule. But how much alpha-GPC is in the capsule you're looking at, when some labels give the weight of a 50% powder, and does it do anything for a healthy brain? To find out, we've checked every alpha-GPC supplement we've audited against the studies, worked out what each costs a day, and picked the one we'd buy.
Quick verdict
Nutricost Alpha GPC Capsules
The one we'd buy. 300 mg a capsule, so two cover the trial's 315 mg for 47 cents a day.

What our audit found
We checked every alpha-GPC capsule and stack we've audited, and these are the five things that matter most if you're choosing one.
-
Check whether the label counts the powder or the alpha-GPC
The trials dosed alpha-GPC itself, not the powder it comes in.15 Double Wood's "Alpha GPC 50% 600 mg" is two capsules of a 50% powder, so 300 mg of alpha-GPC, and Toniiq's 600 mg at a minimum of 90% is 540 mg.811 Nutricost, Jarrow and NOW print a weight with no strength, so we read it as alpha-GPC.101213 Powers of 10's list, updated in October 2026, ranks Double Wood's "600 mg" first without saying it holds 300 mg.17
-
Some capsules hold under half the studied amount
Nootropics Depot's capsule is labeled 150 mg, and its lot report measured 182.7 mg, from a lab the brand set up, but going by the label it takes three to reach the trial's 315 mg.141516 Double Wood's capsules hold 150 mg each too, which is why our runner-up takes three.8
-
The trial in healthy men used 315 or 630 mg
Kerksick 2024 gave single doses of 315 and 630 mg, and it's the only trial in healthy adults that found a gain on a thinking test.1 The longer trials, in memory decline and Alzheimer's, used 600 and 1,200 mg a day.54 Nutricost, Toniiq, Jarrow and NOW reach 315 mg in two capsules, and Double Wood in three.
-
It's a long shot for a healthy brain
In Kerksick 2024, 20 trained men did better on one of three attention tests an hour after a dose, and their power and growth hormone didn't change. The ingredient's maker paid for it.1 A week of 250 or 500 mg a day made no difference on a vigilance test.2 A Korean study of people prescribed alpha-GPC linked it to more strokes over 10 years, though it can't show cause.6
-
If your stack has alpha-GPC, it won't reach 315 mg
Legion Ascend and Genius Consciousness give 300 mg, Genius as 600 mg of a 50% powder. Brain Vitale gives 200 mg, Qualia Mind 115 mg and OLLY's gummies 20 mg. Alpha Brain and RediMind put alpha-GPC inside a blend with no amount.
Best alpha-GPC supplements
Nutricost's capsule holds 300 mg, so two cover the trial's 315 mg for 47 cents a day, and it's the one we'd choose. Double Wood rates a little higher because it publishes an independent lab report that passed the label amount, from April 2025, but each capsule holds 150 mg, so 315 mg takes three for $1.00 a day. When two ratings are within 0.3 of each other, the cheaper studied dose wins. Toniiq, Jarrow and NOW reach 315 mg in two capsules, with no lab report.

We also audited Nootropics Depot Alpha GPC and don't recommend it as a pick. It scores 5.4 out of 10, because one capsule gives 150 mg as labeled, under half the 315 mg the trial used.14

No amount to price
The cost column scales each formula's full daily price to 315 mg of alpha-GPC, which is more than any serving here holds, so it isn't a dose to take or what the alpha-GPC alone costs. Alpha Brain's row has no amount because its blend doesn't print one, and RediMind's blend hides it the same way, so it isn't in the table.
If alpha-GPC is why you're buying, our picks reach 315 mg for 47 cents to $1.47 a day at the brands' own sites. Only Double Wood publishes an independent lab report that passed the label amount, and it's from April 2025.9
Is alpha-GPC worth buying, and who it suits
We wouldn't buy alpha-GPC for a healthy brain on today's evidence. One small trial, paid for by the ingredient's maker, found a single dose helped one of three attention tests, and the clearer results come from people with Alzheimer's or memory decline.145
In De Jesus Moreno 2003, 261 people with mild to moderate Alzheimer's took 400 mg three times a day for six months. Their ADAS-Cog score, where lower is better, fell 3.2 points while it rose 2.9 points on placebo.4 Jeon 2024 gave 600 mg a day to 100 adults with mild cognitive impairment for 12 weeks and found the same score improved 2.34 points more than on placebo. The capsule's maker paid for that trial.5
The healthy-adult record is thin. Kerksick 2024 found better Stroop scores at both doses but no change on two other attention tests.1 Marcus 2017 gave 48 college-age men 250 or 500 mg a day for a week and found no difference on vigilance or strength.2 Tamura 2021 found only a tendency toward higher motivation, in a trial where the researchers knew who took what.3
In South Korea alpha-GPC is a prescription drug, which is how two large studies could follow users through national health records. Lee 2021 found people prescribed it had a 43% higher stroke risk over 10 years than matched non-users, rising with longer use.6 It's an observational study, so it can't show the drug caused the strokes, and Kim 2025 found lower stroke risk in users with memory decline who didn't go on to develop dementia.7 Nootropics Expert's page, published in March 2026, gives the 46% figure from the unmatched comparison as an "increased chance of stroke" without saying the study can't show cause.18
It suits you if you want to test a single dose before a demanding task and accept that the case rests on one small positive trial. It doesn't suit you as a daily memory supplement when your memory is fine, because no trial in healthy adults has tested daily use on memory.
Double Wood's label says not to take it if you're pregnant, nursing or taking other medication.8 In the 12-week trial in memory decline, side effects were no more common than on placebo.5
How much to take, and when
Here's what the trials gave, and how it maps onto capsules.
We score against 315 mg.
The one trial in healthy adults that found a benefit gave single doses of 315 and 630 mg an hour before testing, and 315 mg is the amount we check labels against.1 The memory-decline trial gave 600 mg once a day, and the Alzheimer's trial 400 mg three times a day.54 A week of 250 or 500 mg a day didn't change vigilance scores, and 500 mg lowered thyroid-stimulating hormone.2
Powers of 10 calls 600 mg "the research-backed dose" and says never to go past 1,200 mg a day without medical supervision, but it names no trial for either figure.17
Two capsules of Nutricost, Jarrow or NOW give 600 mg, and two of Toniiq 540 mg. Double Wood's two-capsule serving is 300 mg, so 315 mg takes three and 630 mg takes five.8 None of the trials here compared taking it with food and without, or in the morning against later in the day.
What the trials found
Alpha-GPC has few trials in healthy adults, and most of its controlled evidence comes from people with Alzheimer's or memory decline.
PreliminaryOne small, maker-funded trial in healthy men found a single dose helped one of three attention tests. The clearer gains were in Alzheimer's and memory decline, at 600 to 1,200 mg a day.
In adults without memory problems, one single-dose trial found a gain on one test. Marcus 2017 found no change in vigilance over a week, and Tamura 2021 didn't test thinking.123

The two large Korean studies point in opposite directions. Lee 2021 linked prescriptions with more strokes, and Kim 2025 with slower progress to dementia and fewer strokes in some users. Neither can show cause.67
What it's stacked with
Alpha-GPC is in only five of the stacks we've audited with an amount we can check, plus two that hide it in a blend. These are its usual neighbors, and what's known about each pairing.
- CiticolinePreliminaryNext to alpha-GPC in Qualia Mind and Brain Vitale. Both are choline sources, and we found no trial of the two taken together.
- PhosphatidylserineModerateNext to alpha-GPC in Qualia Mind, Genius Consciousness and Brain Vitale. We found no trial of the pair on its own.
- Ginkgo BilobaModerateNext to alpha-GPC in Qualia Mind and Brain Vitale. We found no trial of the pair on its own.
Citicoline, phosphatidylserine and ginkgo each sit next to alpha-GPC in two or three of those five, and we found no trial of alpha-GPC with any of them on its own.
